FAQ
MAKING A RESERVATION
-
SHOULD I MAKE A RESERVATION OR IS IT BETTER JUST TO WALK IN?
It is always best to make a reservation at Esmée as we are typically busy. That said, if you happen to find yourself unexpectedly in our neighborhood, drop in. We typically hold seating at our chefs counter for walk-ins. -
-
I WANT TO BOOK FOR A PARTY OF MORE THAN SIX GUESTS BUT YOUR WEBSITE WON’T LET ME DO THAT. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
info@esmee.dk is the email address to use for all bookings of seven guests or greater. Please plan ahead. Such reservations can only be made via email. All such reservations will receive a fixed menu. You can view the fixed lunch for dinner menus at this address, https://esmee.dk/functions/. -
-
CAN WE BOOK TWO SMALLER PARTIES, SAY A PARTY OF FOUR AND A PARTY OF FIVE AND REQUEST TO HAVE THEM SEATED NEAR ONE ANOTHER?
No. The functions policy is a firm policy, necessarily created for the overall flow of the entire restaurant. -
-
WHY CAN’T I BOOK A TABLE AT 7:30?
We have two, dinner seatings at Esmée. The first starts at 17:30. The second starts at 20:15. The flow of this two-seating structure precludes us from making bookings from 19:00-20:00. -
-
IS THERE A WAY TO BOOK A TABLE FOR THE ENTIRE EVENING?
Yes. Space allowing, a minimum spend of 3000 kr. per person is required to book a table extending through both seatings. -
-
WHY DO YOU NEED BOTH MY PHONE NUMBER AND E-MAIL ADDRESS?
Your email address is required in order to issue a confirmation of your booking. For you, this is proof that you have made a reservation in our in restaurant. We do not issue initial confirmations via SMS. Your phone number is required in case there is an emergency that requires us to temporarily close the restaurant or if we should have a question about your booking. -
-
CAN I BOOK A TABLE IN THE BAR?
The bar is strictly first to come, first to be served. We do not make reservations for the bar. As well, lunch and dinner services are not available in the bar, only drinks and snacks.
MENU
-
DO YOU HAVE A FIXED MENU?
We feature an à la cart menu. Our fixed menu is only for large parties. All large parties take the fixed menu. At Esmée, a party of seven guests or greater constitutes a large party. Parties of six or fewer guests dine à la cart. No fixed menu is offered for parties of that size. -
-
DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ALL MY OF MY FOOD ALLERGIES?
Yes. It is preeminently important that we do not harm you in anyway. Each of our dishes are the product of multiple processes and ingredients. Many of those ingredients will not appear on the menu. The more we know about your dietary restrictions the better we can take care of you in our restaurant. -
-
MAY I CALL TO ORDER THE MENU IN ADVANCE?
There are rare circumstances in which it is appropriate to pre-order. In such an instance, we would be happy to accommodate you. However, that is typically unnecessary. Please order from the menu once you arrive. -
-
IS YOUR RESTAURANT ORGANIC?
No. We often use organic items. However, we are not committed to featuring exclusively organic agriculture. -
-
WHY DON’T YOU HAVE MORE OPTIONS FOR VEGANS?
Great question. We certainly recognize the growth and moral clarity of the vegan movement. Our cooking is rooted in French bistro cuisine. From a cultural and culinary standpoint, we find that those two strains of cooking are not yet compatible. Therefore, while we do offer a few vegan options, it would be reasonable to conclude that our restaurant is not optimal for vegans. If you’re looking for more vegan options let us know. We have a short list of excellent vegan restaurants. We would be happy to refer you to them. -
-
WHAT ABOUT VEGETARIANS?
Vegetarians and pescatarians have plenty of menu options at Esmée. -
-
CAN YOU MAKE A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR ME?
Unfortunately no. However, we would be happy to place a birthday candle in any dessert you order from the menu. Let us know.
BRINGING YOUR OWN
-
DO YOU HAVE A CORKAGE POLICY?
Yes. If you should bring your own wine, the cost shall be 350 kroner per 75 centiliter bottles of wine. If you should bring a magnum, it’s 2 × 350 kroner and so forth. (A 37.5 or 50 centiliter bottle of wine would also be 350 kroner.) -
-
DO YOU HAVE A SIMILAR POLICY FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BRING THEIR OWN DESSERT?
No. We do not have a “cakage,” policy. Call us if you intend to bring an extraordinary dessert. -
-
CAN WE ADD BALLONS, FLOWERS, GLITTER AND OTHER DECORATIONS TO OUR TABLE?
Sadly, no. Table space at Esmée is in short supply (and glitter is difficult to remove completely). The food and beverages delivered to your table are prioritized above all.
CHILDREN
-
DO YOU HAVE A CHILDREN’S MENU?
No. We do not offer a children’s menu. However, we can usually provide a simple pasta with butter and parmigiano for young children. Principally, the menu is suitable for adults and older children. -
-
MAY WE BRING OUR BABY STROLLER INTO THE RESTAURANT?
Generally, no. In Denmark it is customary to leave the stroller outside often with the child still in in it. This may seem odd to outsiders, but Denmark is a very safe and trusting country. That said, sometimes for lunch when the restaurant is not bustling, it can be possible to bring your stroller inside. For dinner this is generally not possible. Always call ahead and ask. Do not assume that this can be done. -
-
IF WE ARE BRINGING A CHILD, DO WE NEED TO INCLUDE THEM AS A PART OF THE RESERVATION, EVEN IF THEY ARE AN INFANT?
Yes. Each body requires space and therefore needs to be acknowledged. Even if you intend to have your infant in your lap throughout the meal it is good that you tell us you intend to bring your baby. This will likely affect your table allocation. -
-
DO YOU HAVE A BABY/INFANT STATION?
Yes. We have a handicap water closet on the main floor. Within that is the baby changing station.
